yayā svapnaṁ bhayaṁ śokaṁ viṣādaṁ madameva ca
na vimuñcati durmedhā dhṛtiḥ sā pārtha tāmasī
That firmness by which a man of impure mind does not give up sleep, fear, grief, despair (depression) and arrogance (conceit) -- that 'Dhrti' firmness O Partha (Arjuna), is Tāmasika (of the nature of ignorance).
The man, who has the conviction that the evil propensities such as (excessive) sleep, fear, grief, depression and conceit etc., cannot be removed, is of impure mind. Such type of people, do not pay any heed to give up evils, they do not have the courage to give them up but they hold on to them naturally. They cannot even understand that giving up these evil tendencies would do them good.
