[gita-talk] Daily Bhagavad Gita Message - Gita 18-22

Srimad Bhagavad Gita

Eighteenth Chapter

                                             18-22

yattu kṛtsnavadekasminkārye saktamahaitukam
atattvārthavadalpaṁ ca tattāmasam udāhṛtam

But that knowledge by which one holds on to one individual (body) as if it were the whole, without reason, without basis in truth and is trivial, is declared to be Tāmasika.
Comment:

In Tāmasika person delusion (arising out of ignorance) is predominant. He assumes the body which is made up of five elements (subject to birth and death) as the Self.
In this verse the term 'Jnana' has not been given which means that in fact it is no knowledge at all, it is mere ignorance. It is the intellect of Tāmasika people which has been called 'paśu buddhi' (beastly intellect)-- 'paśubuddhimimāṁ jahi' (Śrīmadbhā. 12/5/2)
