[gita-talk] Daily Bhagavad Gita Message - Gita 18-20

Srimad Bhagavad Gita

Eighteenth Chapter

sarvabhūteṣu yenaika bhāvamavyayamīkṣate
avibhakta vibhakteṣu tajjñāna viddhi sāttvikam

The knowledge by which one realizes the Imperishable Being (Reality) in all beings, undivided (not separate in separate beings), knows that knowledge to be Sāttvika.

What we see as 'Is-ness' in separate things and persons etc., it does not belong to that thing or a person but in all of them there is only one all pervading God. There is no independent existence of that thing or the person; because they are changing every moment. But due to the ignorance, their existence appears as if it were true. When the ignorance is gone, even though there is separate knowledge and differences in behavior of different persons and objects etc., one is able to see only one imperishable  reality.

From the view-point of an aspirant, as beings also have their own existence, this has been called  'Sāttvika' knowledge (Viveka or discrimination). If from his view-point there is no separate existence of beings, as there is only one imperishable existence, then this is attaining the state beyond the three Gunas 'transcendental reality' (Attainment of Brahman). That imperishable entity pervades equally everywhere.  We have our natural unity with that existence
