Dear Ajay Ji & Others,
Hope you have got the answer to your question about as to at what age you should
start practicing *mayyasakt mana*(7/1) & *manmana bhav*(9/34).! Let me
summarize. Age is immaterial, while; urge is essential. NOW is the right time for
every action that includes what want to do under the question. Your past lives
constant actions for a particular goal, develops that urge which is needed for
practicing the verses you mentioned!

Above is what various Sadaks/Sadikas mentioned. I would just add that you start
deep Chintan looking at the benefits lying therein, in case your Sanskaras are
not appropriate for practicing the verses you mentioned. Chintan is very useful
tool to start fresh from this very life which could be useful in your future
lives. But that Chintan too is to start NOW!

SHUBHASYA a famous Indian saying, meaning - good deed should be done without delay. If it is important deed...why not do now itself ? If it is not important why later on also? MANMANA not talking of your mind, here there is no direction to your mind, your mind is not is Jeeva. Become with mind focused unto Me. It is not important that mind gets apply the mind and have intention of making it focused on God. Your sentiment is crucial not actual concentration by mind. Once that is the case...why not just now. There is no practice involved...change of ego is involved. A belief or a decision or a resolve is needed....I am God's, only God is mine, nothing else is mine ....accept this fearlessly...right now and move ahead with routines, as if , outside nothing has changed ! Earlier you believed you were doing everything towards "your" body/home/children/ wife/ you are doing for God's body/ home/ children also being related to God only and no one else.

Accept :

I am God's !
I live in God's home !!
I eat prasad of God only !!! ( Whatever I eat and have is gift of God to me)
I serve people belonging to God with things given to me by God only !!!

Now for this effortless acceptance...where is justification for any delay at all ?

Dear Sadhak,
The golden rule for doing anything good is "NOW OR NEVER" Start practicing NOW
or it will never happen.
Swamiji has mentioned many times to leave 1000 tasks and do spiritual practices
first , so pl make it FIRST PRIORITY in yr life.
We all know that life is unpredictable, and any moment death can approach us,
but still we think that we will do spiritual practices "in future", are we sure
that we will be alive tomorrow ?
The first time you suffered for any reason, the first time you saw some one
died, the first time you saw you or some one else fell sick, the first time you
felt helpless, weak or miserable...what ever your physical age may be at that
time , that is the age to start chasing the REAL GOAL.

May all of us realize and achieve our life Goal !!!

Shree Hari

Begin NOW, and forever - As Lord Krishna says - At all times, you constantly
remember (meditate on, recollect) Me and do your duty as well. (Gita 8/7).
Let all work be only God's work. There is no separate work. Let all work be
God's work. With God's power, we are doing His work, for his joy. Nothing is
ours, everything is God's.

A recluse approached Gautama the Buddha in the middle of a street when Buddha was out for begging his meal. He bowed down and caught hold of his feet asking for the technique of liberation then and there itself, on the middle of the road. Buddha asked him to go and wait at the meditation centre till his return. The recluse said "Sir, I cannot wait, who knows in half an hour I may die or you may die else in half an hour all the confidence that I am having in you may also die, so now sir is the time so please teach me now". Buddha looked at the man and understood that really the man has little time left, but how to teach dhamma standing in the middle of the street? He spoke only a few words, but those words contained the entire teaching : "In your seeing, there should be only seeing; in your hearing nothing but hearing; in your smelling, tasting, touching nothing but smelling, tasting and touching; in your cognizing nothing but cognizing. When the contact occurs there should be no valuation, no conditioned perception". The recluse was a man of such a pure mind that these few words of guidance were enough for him to be liberated then-and-there itself by the side of the road and within a few minutes left to him to live , he attained the final goal.

Dear Sadhakas,
Hare Krishna,

This is in response to a question from a Sadhaka as to what is the right age to
start devotional service.

Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita,

" Bahunam janmanam ante,
Jnanavam mam prapadyate,
Vasudevah sarvam iti,
Sa mahatma sudurlabhaha. "
Gitaji ( 7, 19)

Which means
' After many births and deaths, one who is in knowledge, surrenders unto Me.
Such a great soul is very rare '

Since it may take long time , why wait. We have to start very early on. Prahlada
started the devotional service when' he was in the womb. Sooner the better.

Thank you.

Dear Ajay,
Life is uncertain; priorities change, attitude also. You are referring to two of
the most important verses of Bhagavad Gita in which Sri Krishna reveals the
absolute and most confidential knowledge that a sadhak should pursue for
fulfillment of his life by reaching the Samadhi Sthithi (abidance in the Supreme
Self, Paramatman). If the goal is clear and the path that needs to be trekked is
also known, then there is no point in waiting because there is a long and
arduous path to be covered. (self disciplining sadhanas to be practiced). So, as
Swami Chinmayanandaji used to say "here and now" is the best time and not "then
and there" that may never happen.
With best wishes,

Practice always begins when there is strong urge to act .Age is not a limiting
factor but our inner development which we have inherited from past birth. Read
Verse 5 Ch.4.of Geeta; Bahuni te Vyatitani, Janmani Tav Arjuna. Again Ch.6 ,
verse 44, states 'Purva Abhyasen Ten Eva, Hriyate Avashah api saha. Sadhak is
involuntarily drawn to such practices as 'Man Mana Bhava, because of his
development in previous births. Persons like Adi Shankaracharya and Gnaneshwar
Maharaj got attracted to Brahma Vidya during childhood and left body very early
after completing their divine mission. So it is not the age but urge which
decides when to start.

It can be started at any age, the earlier the better. But for most of us it may
take liitle too long a while to have develop asakti in Him and understand Hid
bhava. Even at the last bread of life this can start.

At the age when you can do so undoubtedly (sanshayarahit).

That you are human, automatically means you are Sadhak. You are by your very
birth Sadhak only. When in all situations, circumstances, age , you can
emancipate yourself, then where is time factor to consider? Prahlad started
Bhakti at the age of 4/5. Hence one should turn towards God at early age, in
adolescence or youth itself. There are as many ways of your emancipation as are
human. Hence age or time has no relevance there. Your present situation also is
no obstacle, nor any situation in the past was an obstacle. What are you
supposed to do? You have to simply make a mental resolve...!!! That is it.
Actually if you have not turned towards God yet, you should immediately today
itself resolve: MERE TO GIRDHAR GOPAL DOOSARO NA KOI- I am GOD'S, only God is
mine, no body else is mine. You have inclination towards Bhakti and hence change
your ego right now, Stop considering worldly people and things and your own
mind, intellect, ego , body etc to be me or mine. Instead consider them to be
belonging to God. Start doing all the work for God and for benefit of children
of God ( including your near and dears ...wife, husband, son , daughter...every
one and every thing) and start utilising the things given to you by God for
their benefit .

Just change your ego as stated above right now and rejoice.
