Swameejee wrote, "shok useekaa keejiye, jo anahonee hoy. anahonee hotee naheen, honee hai so hoy." [after verse 27 of chapter 2, Saadhaka Sanjeevanee page 81].
Also Shree Krishna said, "... na karoti na lipyate." [verse 31 of chapter 13].
When "anahonee hotee naheen," and "na karoti na lipyate." stand true, how can any happening (death of body) be unexpected or untimely or before time or unahonee?
Terms used in Question, need explanation (not dictionary meanings).
Humbly,
Saadhaka.

Praarabdha and Death - is Praarabdha the cause for Death?

A wonderful analysis by Swamiji. Some contemporary thoughts in similar lines …

This body has been loaned to each of us with certain terms and conditions with a
binding agreement for survival. We seek it to gain comfort of a healthy shelter
to live. At the same time, the borrowed comfort comes with a price tag - burden
of survival.

As we keep over-borrowing comfort from the nature, the corresponding debt
occumulates within. One has to pay the debts back in terms of one's interaction
with one's environment. The living environment is competetive and demanding in
proportion to the comfort and luxuries it can offer.

Praarabdha is the baggage of survival hurdles and associated stress bagged in
our ever-expanding bag of desire to live and fear of death! The bigger the bag,
heavier the baggage. The burden of such baggage has to be regularly paid off by
everyone in terms of thirst, hunger, fatigue, ageing ... and eventually death!

If one pays the mortgage as stipulated by one's desire to start with, one is
allowed to keep the shelter. However, Praarabdha is meant to age the shelter
toward its termination displacing the resident to oblivion to search for new
shelters. It can happen in different ways ... but, it happens ... it ought to
happen!

Natural death: Praarabdha erodes and corrodes the shelter/body as one seeks the
nature to recycle its resources through the same in order to maintain the
baggage as the ever-expanding bag of desire to live demands while its nemesis
(fear of death) enlarges the leakage at the same time. As the bag fabric (desire
to live) expands, the perforation in the bag (fear of death) also increases! The
natural stress of the process would subject the system to cycles of thrist and
hunger leading to fatigue and fracture eventually.

Accidental Death: As one attempts to borrow resources, there are always n-number
of competing elements around for the same. As far as the fellow is capable of
anticipating the competition and act to face the forces effectively, one would
continue toward one's natural death. However, when the environmental forces
overwhelm the fellow either in strength (e.g. natural calamity) or deceit (e.g.
a scheming murderer) or ignorance (e.g. unobserved vehicle running in a menacing
speed), one would succumb to the situation to let the system shatter.

Suicidal Death: Suicide is the conjugate of accident. Instead of a
strong/deceitful/ignorant external factor, an ignorant consciousness within
triggers the act. The fellow within develops an acute feeling of his bag of
desire being filled with life-threatening fruits. The paranoia of aliens filled
within scaring the fellow within drives the fellow to destroy the very bag in
the trauma of fears. One being unable to bear the weight of Praarabdha succumbs
to an ignorant act of breaking the bag, the shelter, the body!!

Are these deaths really "death"?! Is There any real death then??!!

In all cases, one leads oneself to an ignorant state of oblivion as the shelter
shatters, as the body perishes … loosing one's vision completely to the
impending Tamas developed within in terms of desires and fears … one thinks the
death has taken away one's shelter wrongly ... one never realizes that the true
cause for the decay was oneself, one's own craves for perpetually decaying
existence as well as experience ... one never attempts to realize one's true
nature within that could be ever free from the very bag of crap! In a way most
of the beings seek only suicide since one never made an attempt to appreciate
the true self within and around. One who seeks is bound to be flooded in the
very process.

Asuryaa naama te lokaah andhena tamasaavritaah |

Taangste pretyaabhigacchhanti ye ke chaatmahano janaah ||

TRUE DEATH: All these deaths are never deaths since the fellow who seeks the
baggage binds oneself to the seed of Praarabdha stronger when the bag breaks
(the intensity is actually highest in the case of physical suicide). The seed
drags the fellow for another existence. The only true death is THE TERMINAL
decision of the fellow within to seek termination before the bag that carries
the fellow seeks! One who seeks termination with ll bondage with all potential
baggage in the world would cease to seek anything while the associated body
continues to transact with its environement as needed. On who does not seek
while the faculties exist would not verily seek any in their absence as well.
TRUE DEATH is absolute obliteration of the very seed of existential desire. Only
one is authorized to achieve this feat - oneself! One can achieve the same ONLY
IN AWARENESS ... what is the guarantee that one could ever do it after death
when one fails to achieve the same in spite of having all faculties while
alive?! THEREFORE, WISE ONES WOULD NOT LOOSE THE OCCASION NOW ...

Dear Sadaks,
Very high accumulation of desires- like outings- dance, drama- love- money-
restriction- betrayal of love in ones own mind. The main cause is today movie
and alcohol, and drugs freely available, and sex without easily available- money
required for all these- not available. I interviewd many students under
depression before suicide. filled with this and nothing else. Parents themselves
are not good and not spiritually and physiologically poor. Our nation in hands
of criminals.

Dear Questioners:
Namaskar!
Shree Hari Ji,
Please understand Parabhda and Pushartha are two main reasons or say forces which, are responsible for a particular Karma to get accomplished in simpler words. But actually, Lord Krishna has said in Chapter 18 verses 13 & 14 that there are 5 reasons for the success or failure of an Action (may be referred). However, it is not so easy to tell whether the action is due to Parabhda or Pushartha. On my in depth chintan, I feel all types of actions performed in life time can be divided in two types:

One, those actions whose results are achieved as per our wish those are due to Pushartha while; the second type in which results are as per our wishes in spite of our best efforts such actions are done due to Parabhda.

On analysis on the basis of above two types of actions, suicide would not be due to Parabhda but due to one's Pushartha as the result in most cases is as per expected wish that death should takes place! But in case the suicide is unsuccessful then that saving would be due to Parabhda!

Shree Prashanth Mohan Ji
Accidents are not wishful action so would be happening due to Parabhda!

Dear Unknown questioner,
Question: Whatever the man remembers at the time of death (at time of leaving his body), that he will attain, does this ruling apply to even those that commit suicide ?

It is impossible to know pin pointedly what one exactly remembers at the time of death (at time of leaving his body). But, one thing seems to be logical since, one has full confidence and belief that he is mainly a body so it seems evident that at the time of death one must be deeply sorrowing for the loss of his body which, nature being kind enough to provide him death after death in the form of yet another rebirth. This is probably what Lord Krishna HAS HINTED! In Addition to worry of BODY LOSS whatever, he would be thinking he would be getting with out any doubt on same logic of attention or remembering!

Jai Sri Krishna!

Wednesday 4th January 2012,

Dear Sadhakas, Namaskar,

So many events in one's life are attributed to destiny..Prarabdha. It is
believed that the death of a life form is decided right at the time of
birth...Well according to me, it is not so.

per my understanding, events are governed and influenced by circumxtances and
probability. Both are not having any control by an Individual.

Many inocent persons die in accidents, by incurable diseases, murdered or commit
suicide. Their deaths are not predetermined....by destiny. If you are alert and
take proper measures...you can save your life or save sombody's life.

According to me, there is no spirituality or Karmas involved in your
death....The death is the last step when your body functions cannot continue any
longer and are stopped.

.....Gee Waman

Sudden and Untimely Death

There is one "unexpected and sudden death" and one "untimely and premature"
death. Not understanding the difference between the two, people often call the
"unexpected death" as also "premature and untimely death," when it is not so.
Therefore it is essential to know the difference between the two.

No man wishes to die, but suddenly if he dies, in other words, if he dies in
some bad incident (accident), if he dies from an electric shock, if he dies from
a snake bite then this is his "unexpected and sudden" death.

If some man commits suicide or hangs himself or drinks poison, or sits under
railway tracks, or dumps from the balcony or terrace, or jumps into a river or
intentionally dies by some means, then this is his "untimely and premature
death".

"Unexpected and sudden" death takes place as one's life-span ends per a person's
destiny, but "untimely and premature death" takes place even though life-span is
still remaining. "Untimely and premature death," i.e. suicide is a new act of
horrendous sin, it is not fate or destiny. He who commits suicide, he is
committing the sin of killing a man, for which he will have to pay a severe
price in the world beyond. Out of His grace, God has bestowed this extremely
rare form of birth, this human birth for His attainment, and for our welfare. To
destroy such a rare form of birth, by committing suicide, is a great sin, a very
heavy sin!

Sometimes a man is saved even after attempting to commit suicide, rather he does
not die. Here, the reason is that there is a relationship with some other being.
Just as, if in the future if he was going to have a son, then even on attempting
to commit suicide, he will not die; because the destiny and fate of the child to
be born in the future will prevent him from dying. Similarly, another's fate
when adjoined with him, causes him not to die even though he attempts to commit
suicide. If in the future some very important work were to be executed through
him or if due to what was destined, significant pleasure or pain were to come to
him, than even on attempting suicide, he will not die. However, he will have to
incur the sins of killing a man, and its fruits in the form of pain will also be
very significant. Just as when someone fires a gun pointing to a judge, but the
bullet does not hit the judge, than too he will receive a punishment for that
act; because his intention was to kill the judge. Similarly, simply by having
the intent of committing suicide, one incurs sins.

Those who commit suicide experience immense difficulty and torment at the time
of death, and he wishes to be saved from dying, that somehow or the other, may I
be saved, but there is no chance of him being saved then! He undergoes much
repentance and remorse, that I did a very wrong thing, but now what! Therefore
even the desire to commit suicide is a grave sin.

However severe a problem may arise, however much of suffering may take place,
however much we may be disgraced, one should never want to commit suicide. The
unfavorable and unhappy situations that will come to you due to the fruit of
past actions, will come regardless. Even on committing suicide one cannot be
saved from these situations. On the contrary, a new sinful act will be incurred!
However, if you will endure the painful situations, then past sins will be
eradicated and you will become pure.

No situation will remain forever. Neither pleasure will remain, nor pain, will
remain. After the sun rises, it will set, and after it sets, it will rise again,
this is the law of nature. Therefore when unfavorable situations arise, one
should not become fearful -

Sukham dukham cha bhavaabhaavou cha laabaalaabhou maranam jeevitam cha |
Payaaryatah sarvamavaapnuvanti tasmaad dheero naiva hrshyenna shochet ||
(Mahabhaarat, shaantiparva 25/31)

Pleasure – pain, construction-destruction, birth-death, gains-losses – these
come to all in gradation at the appropriate times. Therefore a patient man does
not become either elated or laments over these.

Yadbhaavi tadbhavatyeva yadbhaavyam na tadbhavet |
Iti nishrichtbuddheenaam na chintaa baadhate kachchit || (Naradpuran, Purva
27/47)

"That which is to happen, will surely happen and that which is not to happen,
will never happen - he whose intellect is certain about this, he will never be
troubled by worries."

When we take the blessed water, we say -

Akaalamrutyuharanam sarvavyaadhivinaashaanaam |
Vishno paadodakam peetyaa punarjanma na vidhyate ||

The blessed nectar-filled water from Lord Vishnu's Lotus Feet, is the kind that
can seize away the "untimely and premature" death (foolishness), and can destroy
all illnesses. He who takes it, will not undergo another birth."

Therefore all should continue to seek the blessed water of the Lord's Lotus
Feet, by which suicide (foolishness of the intellect), false notions will not be
born. The blessed water of Gangaji, are from the Lotus Feet of the Lord. Young
and old, both should take the blessed water from the Lord's Lotus Feet, both
morning and evening.

If one man kills another man then it is the "unexpected and sudden death" of the
one who died, but the killer incurs a new sin, for which he will have to suffer
severe consequences. The reason is, such ordinance is in no one's destiny that
he will die by the hands of a particular individual. The one to die can die of
some reason or the other when his life span comes to an end, but the one to kill
him without any cause becomes an instrument, and becomes a participant in the
sins. Just as in the court of law, it was ordered that a particular man is to be
hanged at 10 o'clock. However some other man rescues him from the clutches of
the jailers and exactly at 10 o'clock executes him. The reason he did so, is
that he had great animosity for this man; he thought that he will kill him and
take revenge and even complete the work of the law officers. But in such a
situation, even the man who kills will receive a punishment of being executed.
Because in the court of law, the punishment of execution was to be performed by
the jailers, not anyone else. (to be continued)
